This is part of OSC Plug And Play.

Some day, we might find ourselves on public networks or we might want to have some kind of protection in case someone plugs a cable on the wired ethernet network of the theater...

There are some important issues related to security here:

  • controlling actuators (motors) can be dangerous
  • messing with controls can destroy a show

Currently, our best security is that there is absolutely none. This means that the network itself has to be well protected (secured wifi, not dangling network jacks around). Since this will not work forever, what do we do ?

A possible solution would be to use Transport Layer Security (encoding traffic). This could work for the most sensitive control messages which generally require low bandwidths.
